Two segments stand at the start of the park's German themed area, near the Alexanderplatz station, among half-timbered buildings and Weimar neoclassicism. They were erected in 1996 on the initiative of Roland Mack, who runs the park, and they come with a certificate of origin — a detail worth recording, because most records in this catalogue have no paperwork at all and several have graffiti that is probably not original.
The park's own press office documents a third segment: from 1 October 2015, for the twenty-fifth anniversary of German unity, it has shown in its entrance area an element painted by the New York pop artist James Rizzi as Borderless Buildings, nearly four metres high and 3.8 tonnes, from the Rizzi family estate. The release says nothing about the two older segments.
Wie kam es hierher?
Bought from Friedrich Dunsing, an entrepreneur who had been responsible for demolishing a stretch of the Wall at the Glienicker Brücke, where these elements came from — the bridge used for spy exchanges between Potsdam and West Berlin.
