Small pieces set among stones from seventy countries, dedicated by the G7 foreign ministers in 1995.
Small pieces of the Wall are encased at the World Peace Pavilion on the Dartmouth waterfront, looking across the harbour to Halifax. The pavilion is a low concrete amphitheatre holding stones and bricks donated by more than seventy countries — a brick from the Great Wall of China among them — on a bed of Nova Scotian sand. It was conceived by Metro Youth for Global Unity and dedicated on 17 June 1995 by the foreign ministers attending the Halifax G7 summit. It has since drawn criticism as a monument to the triumphalism of the moment that produced it, which is a fair reading and worth recording alongside the object.
