The record
Painted Wall pieces stand among the sculptures on a farmstead gallery's grounds; Kani Alavi painted four of them there in 2003.
The Landgalerie Mark Brandenburg is the gallery of Karl Witzleben in a former farmstead at Petersdorf. Its own website, as archived in December 2024, said that sculptures are shown on the adjoining outdoor grounds, among them some pieces of the former Berlin Wall painted by artists. An earlier post on the same site records an exhibition of Kani Alavi, of the East Side Gallery artists' initiative, from 1 September to 23 November 2003, during which Alavi painted four original Wall segments on site in November 2003. The gallery's 2015 press release dates its first exhibition to 1 December 1995 in a cellar in Frankfurt (Oder) and the move to the Petersdorf farmstead five years later.
The Wall Net, writing in August 2021, counts about two dozen segments on the grounds, which it says once separated the Berlin district of Spandau from Falkensee, painted mainly by artists from Georgia, Leipzig, Berlin and Eisenhüttenstadt, Alavi among them. That count and origin rest on its account alone.
Whether the gallery is still open is not known: its website no longer answers, and the last archived home page named an event of September 2023 as the next.
How did it get here?
Segments collected by the gallerist Karl Witzleben and painted by artists on his gallery's grounds, four of them by Kani Alavi in 2003; by The Wall Net's account they came from the border between Spandau and Falkensee.
