The record
Two segments that reached the Heuberg training area through Bundeswehr units that were disbanded or closed, now part of the base's military history collection.
Two segments of the Wall stand on the barracks site at Stetten am kalten Markt on the Swabian Alb, some 580 kilometres from where they once stood, together with border posts and a Trabant used by the military. They belong to the military history collection of the Heuberg training area, which Marcus Klotz, a retired officer, helped to build up and looks after. Nobody knows exactly where in Berlin either stood, he told the Schwäbische Zeitung in 2020.
Each came by way of a unit that no longer exists. One, with border posts, belonged to a Bundeswehr regional defence command, a Verteidigungsbezirkskommando, that had taken part in dismantling the border; when that was disbanded the segment went to the barracks at Meßstetten, and when Meßstetten closed Klotz pressed for it to be transferred to Stetten. The other belonged to the Feldjäger battalion at Esslingen and came to Stetten in 1994 when the battalion moved there; before the battalion was disbanded, Klotz made sure it would stay. The Wall Net, a tertiary list, tells it differently — a memorial put up on the Heuberg in 1991, one of many raised at Bundeswehr garrisons in the West after the Bundeswehr took over the dismantling of the border — and places the pair in front of the collection's building.
The paper's headline was that hardly anyone knows the Wall is there, and that it is not easy to get to see it.
How did it get here?
One segment from a Bundeswehr Verteidigungsbezirkskommando, by way of the barracks at Meßstetten; the other from the Feldjäger battalion at Esslingen, which brought it to Stetten in 1994. Where either stood in Berlin is not known.

A report by Lukas M. Heger of 3 October 2020: on the barracks site at Stetten am kalten Markt, about 580 km from their former place, stand parts of the Berlin Wall, border posts and a military Trabant; Marcus Klotz, who looks after the Heuberg military history collection, does not know where in Berlin the two segments stood; one, with border posts, belonged to a Bundeswehr Verteidigungsbezirkskommando involved in dismantling the border, went after its disbandment to the barracks at Meßstetten and, when that closed, to Stetten at Klotz's urging; the second belonged to the Feldjäger battalion in Esslingen and came to Stetten in 1994 with the unit, staying when the battalion was disbanded; the piece is not easy to see.
