One of sixteen segments the publisher Axel Springer gave to every German state capital for the twentieth anniversary.
A segment 3.60 m high and weighing 2.7 tonnes stands in the Oberer Schlossgarten beside the state parliament, painted by the Berlin graffiti artist Christoph Grohmann. It was unveiled in 2009 by the minister-president Günther Oettinger with Kai Diekmann, the editor-in-chief of Bild. It belongs to a distribution worth tracking across the catalogue: Axel Springer AG gave an original element to every German federal state for the twentieth anniversary of the opening, and 33 elements in all once the cities it also gave to are counted — a single publisher placing more segments than most countries in this catalogue hold, in the same way that Lord Palumbo accounts for five sites on two continents.
How did it get here?
A gift from Axel Springer AG in 2009, one of 33 elements the company acquired and distributed to German states and cities to mark twenty years since the Wall opened. The company's own headquarters stood directly beside the Wall in Kreuzberg.
