The left half of Kiddy Citny's heart, on the museum ship from 1990 to 2006 — returned to Peter Max and now in his New Jersey store.
One half of a heart painted by Kiddy Citny stood on the flight deck of the museum ship USS Intrepid from 1990 until 2006. It belonged to the Berlin-born pop artist Peter Max, who lent it to the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum after using it in the wall happening that opened the American trade in the Wall in New York harbour on 2 February 1990.
Max treated the segment as his own material. He added two peace doves: one painted where the round anti-climb pipe had left the concrete grey, the other cast in concrete and set on the upper edge. The standing dove had to be taken off again because visitors kept trying to steal it.
When the ship went in for its refit the museum returned the segment to Max, and it was taken to his store at Lyndhurst in New Jersey, where this catalogue now records it separately. Its other half — the right side of the same heart — was sawn off and sent to North Carolina in October 1990 to be sold.
