Berlin Wall pieces in Florida

Florida's sites are commercial, with one exception. The Orlando Ripley's is where a consignment of sixteen ten-foot sections landed after 1989, by barge to Hamburg, freighter to New Orleans and lorry to Orlando, for distribution around the company's attractions; outside the Hard Rock Cafe at Universal a segment works as frontage. At Miami Ironside four double-sided segments repainted by Thierry Noir during Art Basel 2013 stand at the entrance to a design district, outdoors and unlabelled. The monument at the St. Petersburg Clay Company is the remnant of a larger plan: a Florida foundation shipped about 350 slabs of the inner wall to Tampa Bay in 2007 intending to place a hundred monuments across North America, St. Petersburg was the first community in the state to buy one, and most of the slabs were never placed. The exception is Miami Dade College, where the German consul general presented a segment to the city on 9 November 2014, twenty-five years to the day after the border opened. The Temple House in Miami Beach is a former location: Porsche Design's release says two pieces were shipped from Berlin for its Art Basel show in December 2013 "for the event only".

Each site says what its evidence rests on, from Listed to Confirmed, and whether the piece can be seen today; a listing in a source inventory is not a confirmation that anyone has seen it. The research methodology explains how claims are weighed.
