The record

Bought privately in 1990 and kept in a politician's own garden for years before he gave it to the Free State of Bavaria.

An original segment stands at the south-west corner of the Englischer Garten, beside the United States Consulate General on the Königinstraße and within sight of the Bavarian State Chancellery. It has been there since 3 October 1996 — German Unity Day. The site is freely accessible at any hour, which is not true of most segments standing next to diplomatic buildings.

How did it get here?

Acquired in 1990 by Johannes Singhammer, then a member of parliament for the CSU, who set it up in his own garden. He gave it to the Free State of Bavaria a few years later, and it was installed on its present site in 1996.
